A private, independent institution, Jacksonville University has a student community of over 3,000 from 45 states and 50 countries; a 14:1 student-faculty ratio; and an average class size of 18. The institution is a model of intimacy nestled in a city with a population that exceeds one million. Jacksonville University offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees with more than 70 majors, programs, and concentrations. History

Originally opened in 1934 as a two-year community college named William J. Porter University, Jacksonville University was quickly renamed Jacksonville Junior College. Fifteen years later, the campus was moved to its current location along St. Johns River. It was renamed Jacksonville University six years later when it became a four-year university.

Jacksonville University’s Accelerated Degree Program (ADP) allows working adults to earn a degree without putting their careers on hold. This program is fully accredited and offers 8-week sessions throughout the year, which allows working professionals the flexibility needed to develop their professional skills while earning a living.

Jacksonville University boasts of its nationally recognized faculty, some of whom have won awards from the Carnegie Foundation and honors such as the U.S. Professor of the Year and Florida Professor of the Year. Accreditation

Jacksonville University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Additionally, Jacksonville University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music and the National Association of Schools of Dance. Its Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing degrees are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthodontics are both accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Financial Assistance

The Financial Aid Office at Jacksonville University is ready to serve its students by helping them fund their educational experiences. Freshmen, Transfer, and International students are screened for academic scholarships and grants that range from $1,000 to $18,000 per year. The Financial Aid Office also assists students in applying for federal aid. Jacksonville University offers a payment plan through an outside vendor for those students who want to pay as they go. Accelerated Degree Program students may take advantage of the University’s Corporate Reimbursement Payment Option.
